Cross Country Races in Avondale

Congratulations to all the boys and girls who represented the school so well in Avondale on Tuesday.

Despite the cold weather the athletes all performed admirably with Anna Mac Devitt (7th) and Mia McEntee (9th), winning individual medals in the first event of the day. Later on the 3rd class girls won silver for 2nd place in the team event.

Ben Maguire led the 3rd class boys from the start and there was no catching of him as he came home in 1st place. Again the 3rd class boys won silver for the team.

Sean McDonald in his first time to represent the school finished in 4th place for the 4th class boys. Fourth class boys & girls ran very well and were just outside the medals for the team event.

Kayleigh Cronin was up with the leaders all the way for 5th class girls and finished in 7th place, followed by a fast finishing Lucy Jones in 10th. Once again the girls got the bronze medal for the team event. Fifth class boys despite running very well barely missed out on team medals.

There was no denying 6th class girls, Rachel O’Callaghan finished in 2nd place followed by Imogen Lynam in 3rd. Holly Duggan showed her customary battling determination to come in 9th followed by Julia Temple and Alex Barcoe in 13th & 14th. Needless to say with scores like these they were assured of the gold medals for the team event. Sixth class boys rounded off the day with great determination and were just outside the medals.

A big ‘thank you’ to all the parents who travelled to Avondale to support us. We came home with 9 individual medals and 4 team medals.
